Our staff presented a seminar on Development of Joint Attention in Individuals with ASD at our local peer review roundtable event (March 2012). As this is a key area of intervention when joint attention skills are not established, details of our assessment procedures and intervention strategies were shared and well received by our group of colleagues. Task Sequences Seminar Well Received!

Our “Maximizing Success” anniversary seminar series, jointly held with the Organization for Autism Research was concluded on October 3, 2011 with “Task Sequences for Independence”. Dr. Barbin, our presenter, shared a great deal of practical information on selecting and setting up chaining or task sequence skills and effectively teaching them to provide for greater independence in home, community, work and school settings. The information was well received by the audience who brought forth many examples and questions to build on the take home message. Look for future seminar events in the local area! To mark their shared 10 year anniversary of service to the autism community, Behavioral Directions LLC and the Organization for Autism Research (OAR) present a seminar series.

Seminar #2: Monday, October 3, 2011 (6:00 p.m.-8 p.m.-dinner served)Using Task Sequences to Create Independence: This workshop will introduce breaking down task sequences (e.g., daily living skills, chores, leisure skills, morning/night routines, full day schedules) into component parts to establish skills and increase independence using chaining methods across the life span. Prompting and prompt fading will be reviewed and an interactive exercise will be included. Designed for educational staff, parents, and professionals.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER:

Dr. Jane Barbin, PhD, BCBA-D is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and Board Certified Behavior Analyst – Doctoral who founded Behavioral Directions, LLC in 2001. She holds a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and trained in Behavioral Psychology at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and Kennedy Krieger Institute. As the founding director of the nationally-recognized Ivymount School Autism Program, she has practiced since 1992.

Outcome Based IEP Goals

This workshop will present a brief overview of the IEP process, address the importance of and provide guidance on writing goals that are measurable and will offer an interactive writing exercise (Feel free to bring a sample IEP with you). This presentation is designed for educational staff, parents, and professionals.
