Dr. Barbin to present a seminar on starting a Home ABA program!

Dr. Jane Barbin, Executive Director of Behavioral Directions, LLC will present an invited seminar on February 27, 2010 (1-4:30pm) at the Jewish Community Center of No Virginia (Fairfax VA) through Parents of Autistic Children-Northern Virginia Chapter (POAC-NoVA) on starting a home-based Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) program for children with ASD. A parent presenter will join her in sharing the “nuts and bolts” of start up, needed materials, evaluating if it is working, coordinating efforts with school goals, and selecting a qualified program supervisor who adheres to best practice principles and is focused on best outcome. This seminar is sure to offer lots of practical information for parents, relatives, educators and related professionals seeking to integrate ABA strategies into home and community settings. We are pleased to annouce that Jamie Lebowitz Bassos, M.S., BCBA has joined our ranks to support our mission to provide high quality, science-based intervention for children, adults and families facing autism spectrum and behavior disorders. Ms. Bassos is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) who comes to us from the New England Center for Children (NECC) where she trained extensively with children with autism spectrum disorders with a focus on early intervention. She earned a Master’s degree in Applied Behavior Analysis from Northeastern University in Boston, MA. Welcome Ms. Bassos!

Behavioral Directions, LLC staff were on site in Washington, DC on October 31st at the 2009 Autism Speaks “Walk NOW For Autism” event on the National Mall. Staff were able to talk directly with parents and other service providers on the necessity of using evidence-based education and treatment procedures, namely Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) in working with children with ASD. They enjoyed giving our goodies to Trick Or Treaters who dropped by and creating and sharing bubbles as a fun event on the National Mall.

Dr. Jane Barbin is an invited speaker at the annual Autism New Jersey conference to be held on October 9, 2009 in Atlantic City, NJ. Dr. Barbin will present on “Behavioral Consultation for Individuals with ASD: Factors Related to Success.” Given the diversity of services available to the autism community, consumer protection must be a primary consideration in good practice. Behavioral Directions, LLC commits strongly to evidence-based education and interventions for the autism community, seeking to increase awareness of factors (e.g., credentialing, professionalism, advocacy, methodology, family characteristics, etc.) that impact success for families seeking outreach services.
